This is an experiment to see how honest people can be if they don't have to identify themselves. Some silly, some deep, but all require honesty.

i've tried many of the weight loss concoctions, the chinese herbal foot patches to draw out toxins, i always want to send off for the exercise stuff, but i know myself well enough to know i wouln't use it. Yeah, i fell for some of the exercise dvd's, but not many. Tatoo a big blue S for sucker on my forehead!
Only thing I tried for a few years was bulimia. I don't so much recommend it. I would like to do P90X though. My kids tell me I should buy the ab roller thing when they see the commercial! HA.
I tried the low carb/Atkin's diet back when it was the big thing. I lost quite a bit of weight, but I was miserable and bitchy all the time! I would never do that again.
I guess I tried the anrexia thing. Nothing extreme, I just didn't want to get fat, so I hardly ate anything. I lost my period of a long time and my breasts were shrinking and decided I had had enough of that.
I've never done anything I would consider bogus. I did South Beach, lost about 40 lbs. and felt amazing, so I can hardly consider that bogus. I'm doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred right now and it's kicking my butt in a good way, so I don't count that either!
Slim-fast did nothing for me, though. I drank way too many of those stupid shakes for no results!
I've tried every diet fad for the last 25 years. Yes this even includes that 'cabbage diet'...yuck.
I too am a sucker for infomercials, but I don't buy them off TV, I wait until they sell them in the 'Not sold in Stores' section of stores like Walmart and Rite aid.
12:39, I'm curious as to why you get so irritated by eating diorders or alcoholism being referred to as diseases. Have you ever stuggled with either one of these things? Or known anyone who has?
Eating disorders are serious. I would very much consider it a mental health disorder... and I'm sure to some people that would be a disease. I certainly wouldn't consider it a "fad diet". People who struggle with eating disorders (or alcoholism) and don't seek help can wind up with some major health issues, or even risk losing their life.
I didn't say they weren't difficult, but they aren't "diseases". How can they equate choosing to drink too much or sticking your finger down your throat as to having brain cancer??? Alcholism is a struggle, bulumia can be a "disorder", but NOT a disease that they unforunatly caught or developed that was totally out of their control.
Can lying be a disease? I have known people who struggle with this. I mean if they didn't seek help it could cause major life problems. What about over-eating? Is that a disease too? Or worrying? I suffer from that disease. I know a number of people who suffer from the terrible disease of lazy-itis. I mean why can't we blame all of our sins on some "disease"?
2:36 ---> Kindly, and gently I must tell you, yes Anorexia and Bulemnia are definitely diseases. It is a mental health disorder.
Have you ever known someone who was schizophrenic? They hear voices that are not there and some see things that are not there.
Anorexia is similar. There are some people with anorexia, that although they look like a skeleton, when they look in the mirror they seem themselves as fat. This causes them to not eat, binge/purge, and neglect their overall health.
4:07, this is 1:09. I'm not sure if your comment was directed at me or not. I wasn't trying to start an argument, I just was interested in where people get their information and how they formed their opinion. The topic of today's conversation was fad diets. A few posters said they tried anorexia or bulimia. Maybe they were half joking, maybe they were completely serious. I was simply commenting that these two things are not to be taken lightly... someone who is truly suffering from any eating disorder should seek professional help. It's not something you can even begin to compare to being lazy or worrying too much. There's so much more to it than simply deciding to not eat a lot so you can lose weight. And it IS something that is out out of your control.
Every time I see an ad for any home gym, or fitness apparatus, I think "I could do that. Yeah, six weeks to body like THAT! I'm in!" Then I don't buy it and remain sitting on my a$$. Way more funner.
Since we're totally off-topic now, I'll weigh in--
Anorexia and bulimia are diseases. But if you "tried" purgeing, you probably weren't actually bulimic, you just made yourself throw up. And if you chose to not eat anything, you likely weren't anorexic, you were just not eating.
It's like saying you're depressed just because you cried a couple of times.
Wow, very suprised my comment caused many other comments!
I am the bulimia poster and I actually don't see it as a disease. I just think of it as a struggle. However, it is definitely a mental disorder and body image issue but if you want to change, you can. With help and the will, you can. No matter how much people pray to be cured of MS or anyother disease like that, it is completely out of their hands.
Anyway I would have to say that many start this as a quick fix "fad diet" and then it turns to obsession and spiraling out of control. Which is why I said I don't recommend it! There are annorexic's that aren't skeletons. It's a wide spectrum.
Let's see... there was Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, the nutritionist's plan (that was a lot of fish and salad) weight watchers online step aerobics walk away the pounds stop the insanity detox your body dr. gundry only buying things that were "lite" low fat/no fat body for life shakes
now for what i wanted to try... pills supplements surgery

Are bulimia and anorexia health fads?
Aren't they diseases?
I have tried some crazy diets and a couple detox things. I also am a sucker for an infomercial.

Phentermine and this stuff is addicting. Started taking it for energy and ended up losing weight more than I need to.
No, they aren't diseases like crohns or the plague or cancer.
I get irratated when people describe things like bulmia or alcholism as a "disease".

So, now it's sin to struggle with an eating disorder?
wow, this is what happens when just one person can't let other people;s comments be their own opinion and have to start an argument
lets get back on topic ladies
grow up
A Slim Fast shake only keeps you satisfied if you drink it with a Big Mac.
